Two Exciting New Additions to Margaret River’s Cellar Door Scene

There’s always something new to discover in the Margaret River wine region, and two new cellar door openings are giving wine lovers even more reason to explore. A dedicated sparkling wine house is now welcoming guests, while a small-batch producer with a compelling vineyard story has opened in a new home. Together, Idée Fixe and Trait Wines are the latest additions to Margaret River’s ever-evolving cellar door scene, with more than 100 places to visit across the region.

Idée Fixe

If you love sparkling wine, Idée Fixe belongs on the list.

Created by the team behind Vasse Felix, and many years in the making, Idée Fixe is dedicated to Méthode Traditionnelle wine made from Margaret River Chardonnay. The new Idée Fixe House offers a beautifully considered tasting experience, with guided tastings focused on Blanc de Blancs and the craft of traditional-method winemaking.

Visitors can book a seated Salon tasting, enjoy a shorter bar tasting, or stay for a glass of bubbles in the Courtyard with small bites. Architectural, picturesque and highly specialised, this statement-making experience brings a new dimension to Margaret River.

Trait Wines

Trait Wines is one to seek out for those who like uncovering the lesser-known.

Founded by Theo Truyts and Clare Trythall, Trait is a small Margaret River producer shaped by a remarkable old vineyard close to town. The wines come from a close-planted site, with Chardonnay at the heart of the range, alongside Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Now welcoming visitors at its new home, Trait’s cellar door is a chance to connect directly with the people, place and story behind the wines.
