Margaret River has once again cemented its place among the world’s leading fine wine regions, with an outstanding performance at the 2026 Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA), including a coveted Best in Show accolade and a strong collection of Platinum and Gold medals.

Among the region’s highlights was Deep Woods Estate Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2023, which was named Best in Show – Decanter’s highest honour. Selected as one of just 50 wines worldwide to receive the title, it represents the pinnacle of achievement in one of the wine industry’s most respected international competitions.

Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon led the charge, collecting multiple top awards and reinforcing the region’s reputation as one of the world’s great Cabernet-producing destinations. Chardonnay also impressed judges, while Shiraz featured among the gold medal winners.

Now in its 22nd year, the Decanter World Wine Awards is the world’s largest wine competition. In 2026, almost 17,000 wines from 58 countries were assessed through a rigorous blind tasting process by 245 international wine experts, including 63 Masters of Wine and 24 Master Sommeliers.

Only a small fraction of wines progress through the competition’s multi-stage judging process. Gold medal winners are re-tasted before advancing to Platinum judging, with the highest-performing wines then reviewed again by Decanter’s Co-Chairs to determine the final Best in Show selection.

For wine lovers and collectors alike, these results offer a compelling guide to some of the region’s most sought-after wines, and a reminder that Margaret River remains firmly among the world’s great fine wine destinations.
