Firetail was established in 2002, with the vineyard’s original plantings dating back to 1979. Today, Directors Rob Glass and Jessica Worrall lead the business, bringing more than 40 years of combined wine industry experience. Rob holds a Diploma in Wine Business Management and is a Chartered Engineer, while Jessica holds a Masters in Wine Technology and Viticulture. Together, they marry professional rigour with personal passion.

For Firetail, sustainability is not a recent shift, but a two-decade commitment.

“For 20 years we have been reducing inputs to our property to bring the soil into balance,” they explain.

That long-term philosophy includes a major focus on reducing soil compaction and promoting species biodiversity in the vineyard, aimed to improve quality and allow for minimal intervention viticulture practices.

In recent years, Firetail has become a demonstration site for Wine Australia’s EcoVineyards EcoVineyards program, trialling increased mid-row species diversity, encouraging beneficial insects and monitoring microbat populations. Mowing now replaces wider herbicide strips beneath vines, supporting greater biodiversity and soil health.

In addition to their focus on encouraging environmental biodiversity, the team at Firetail Wines also prioritise mechanical rather than chemical viticultural practices, such as using Guinea Fowl for insect control and not tilling the soil. This has led to a significant reduction in herbicide use.

The use of lightweight bottles has also reduced the environmental impact of production at Firetail Wines.

The result is resilience — in both vineyard and glass.

A boutique operation, Firetail remains cellar-door only, with just three people, all directors, hosting visitors themselves.

The wine range features Chardonnay – in still and sparkling form, plus Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Rosé, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and a Cane Cut Dessert Wine. Recent accolades include Gold Medals for their sparkling Chardonnay, Semillon and Cabernet Sauvignon.

A hidden gem in a true terroir sweet spot of Margaret River, Firetail Wines reflects its environment: grounded, balanced and quietly confident.

And for those who make the journey to Rosa Glen, there are a few cracker vintages waiting in the cellar door.
