Margaret River Tops Australian Results at 2025 Decanter World Wine Awards

Margaret River has once again affirmed its leading global wine reputation, with a standout performance at world’s largest and most influential competition, the 2025 Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA), announced yesterday. 

Of 57 participating countries, Australia’s share of awards placed it as the fourth best performer after France, Italy and Spain. 

Margaret River was Australia’s most awarded, claiming an impressive 104 medals, including 22 Top-Tier Awards: 

  • 1 Best in Show 

  • 4 Platinum 

  • 17 Gold Medals 


For context, entire countries such as New Zealand and the USA received 26 and 20 Top-Tier Awards respectively. Margaret River’s performance stands out internationally, reinforcing the region’s reputation for quality and excellence. 

According to Decanter, only 50 ‘Best in Show’ medals were awarded (representing just 0.30% of all wines tasted), alongside 137 Platinum and 732 Gold medals.

DWWA is the world’s largest and most influential wine competition. Wines from 57 countries were evaluated by 248 top international experts, including 22 Master Sommeliers and 72 Masters of Wine – the most in the competition’s history.
