In late June, more than 55 members of the Margaret River Wine Community, representing 19 vineyards and wineries, donated their time and efforts for the fourth annual Coastal Revegetation Day.
The enthusiastic volunteers met at the Margaret River Rivermouth, to carry out important land management activities, that assist with the protection of the region’s precious coastline.
Specific activities included weed removal, along with brushing and planting to control and rationalise access to the dunes, and thus prevent trampling and vegetation loss, to stabilise the land and improve biodiversity.
The 120km of coastline in the Margaret River Wine Region sits within the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park, and supports one of the Earth's largest and significant populations of endemic flora species.
This annual initiative forms a key part of the Margaret River Wine Association Sustainability Program, which enables the industry to fulfil custodial responsibilities towards the region’s exceptional environment, recognising the importance of sustaining and protecting its rare biodiversity.
