SUMMARY:The Last Long Lunch by Melissa Palinkas at Willespie Estate
DESCRIPTION:For the final Saturday of one of Western Australia’s most respected chefs’ residency at Willespie Estate\, Melissa Palinkas is changing it up – a long lunch built entirely around WA producers. \nShare plates from the paddocks\, farmers’ markets and coastline of WA\, cooked over the purpose-built asado and above-ground grill\, in full view of the table. Build your table from what’s on offer. The wines are Willespie’s. The afternoon is yours. \nWA Good Food Guide Chef of the Year in 2019\, with her restaurant Young George recently awarded a second hat\, Palinkas is known for bold\, produce-driven cooking grounded in a nose-to-tail\, root-to-shoot philosophy. \nMelissa cooks with what’s good right now –  pulled from the ground\, picked off the trees\, or landed on the boats that week. Sourced directly from WA growers\, makers and fishers\, and shaped by what the asado and grill are calling for. \nSaturday 4th July 2026 from midday. Bookings essential. \nWhether you arrive on your own\, as a pair\, or with a few of your favourite people\, there’s a seat with your name on it\, and a chair beside you that they’ll fill with a good story. That’s how lunch works here.

SUMMARY:Options for Vineyards: Reworking and Top-Grafting (AWRI)
DESCRIPTION:In the is webinar\, Penny Flannery will present Options for Vineyards: Reworking and Top-Grafting. \nAustralian grape and wine businesses are facing challenges due to market oversupply\, declining grape prices\, increasing disease pressure\, and ageing vineyard infrastructure. Additionally\, a large proportion of Australia’s vineyard area\, particularly plantings established during the rapid expansion of the 1990s and early 2000s\, is reaching an age where productivity is declining\, and other problems are starting to show. \nConsequently\, many growers are reassessing the future of their blocks\, with a focus on 4 main redevelopment pathways: \n\nReworking\nTop-grafting\nReplanting\nRemoving.\n\nEach option has different costs\, risks and timelines with the choice depending on vine health\, soil condition\, infrastructure status\, market outlook and long-term business goals. Attendees of this webinar will take away the knowledge on how to rework and top-graft a vineyard. \nWhat you will learn: \n\nReworking and top grafting are only viable when the vineyard has strong “bones” and intervention happens early. Successful reworking or top grafting depends on acting before significant vine decline and ensuring vines are healthy\, uniform\, and free from major trunk disease or viruses. If these conditions aren’t met\, the risks and costs increase sharply\, often making replanting the better long-term option.\nClear objectives and thorough follow-up management are essential to make reworking and top grafting worthwhile. These options must be driven by a defined purpose (e.g. variety change\, productivity improvement) and supported by realistic budgeting\, labour\, and post-grafting care. Without strong planning and ongoing management\, the economic and production benefits of reinvestment can be lost.\n\nRegister here.

SUMMARY:Acknowledge This! (Shire of Augusta Margaret River)
DESCRIPTION:An Acknowledgement of Country Workshop with Rhys Paddick from Modern Custodian and hosted by the Shire of Augusta Margaret River. \n\n\n\nFollowing a strong response to last year’s session\, we’re offering the Acknowledge This! workshop again to all community members in the Augusta Margaret River shire who want to “ditch the script” and build confidence in delivering meaningful Acknowledgements of Country. \nAcross our community\, many people and organisations are embracing Acknowledgements of Country as an important sign of respect. At the same time\, it can be challenging to move beyond using a script\, especially when you want to get it right. This workshop creates space to build confidence and explore a more personal and meaningful approach. \nDelivered by Modern Custodian\, the workshop will guide you in crafting an Acknowledgement that reflects the place\, the people\, and your own connection to Country. You’ll build a deeper understanding of what an Acknowledgement is and why it matters\, and develop your own personalised version that can be adapted for different settings – allowing your voice and story to come through with confidence. \nVenue: Margaret River HEART – Nala Bardip Mia \nRegister here
